Two towns, one island and all the news to go with it.
Seven Mile Satellite is a local news organization that launched in 2019. We are a small staff of writers, photographers, videographers and editors who are looking to share their love for this island through the news.
The idea for Seven Mile Satellite was rooted in the lack of news coverage for the island. Last year, in under two months, the site had 2,500 visitor's, and we are excited to expand our readership.

Global News Editor
Jake Conley is a junior at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, double-majoring in Journalism and Sociology, and double-minoring in Global Religion & Issues and French Language Studies. At JMU, he works as the investigations editor for The Breeze newspaper leading teams of reporters in long-term projects, and he’s previously worked at The Breeze as a copy editor and assignment reporter covering everything from Title IX policy and political rallies to the latest trends in hip-hop and where one can find the best cup of coffee in Harrisonburg.
Emory Saia is an East Carolina University graduate. She’s currently a copywriter at QVC where she writes and edits email marketing campaigns and paid social media advertisements. Emory has spent every summer in Avalon, and she has worked on the island since she was 13. She’s so excited to be a part of this journey with us.
Ellis Kelsey is a writer for Seven Mile Satellite. He’s going into his fourth year studying film at Temple University in Philadelphia. At Temple, he writes sketch comedy, original screenplays and Pop Rock music! Occasionally, he’s known to dabble in screen-acting, playing roles in his classmates’ short films. Kelsey is eager to explore Seven Mile Island and share its stories with the community through the summer months.
John Pullen has a passion for writing, — articles, fiction, screenwriting, poetry — name the category, he’s at least written two pieces of it. Being a NJ native, visiting the island in the summer months has been a beloved family tradition that stretches far past when he was born 15 years ago. So, when given the chance to explore the island and write about it, he jumped at the opportunity. John is so excited to share his writing with you.
Abigail Dorley is a senior at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, studying social and behavioral sciences. She has always had a love for photography and has taken a few photography classes at a university in Philadelphia. Wherever she goes she can be seen with her phone or camera taking pictures around the island. Dorley is very excited to be able to share her work on this site.
Grace Shevlin is 17 years old and an upcoming senior at Bayard Rustin High School in West Chester, Pennsylvania. She comes from a creative family, which has inspired her to take up photography and videography. They are some of the reasons why she loves it so much! Since she's picked up this interest she has shot several fundraisers, weddings and many more events. Shevlin plans to continue her passion in college and make a career out of it someday. She spends all her summers in Avalon, so it's a very special place to her and a very special place to capture.
Amy McIntyre Kramer
Amy McIntyre Kramer is a writer for Seven Mile Satellite. She’s a real estate sales associate at Tim Kerr Sotheby’s and is also a wife, a mother and a yogi. Amy just wrote her first book — a memoir about her experiences with motherhood — and plans to publish it in 2020. In the meantime, she’s thrilled to be sharing her love and lifelong memories of Avalon and Stone Harbor with our readers.
Colleen Kelly is a kindergarten teacher and 2018 Ramapo College of New Jersey graduate. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology with an elementary education certification. She has a side hobby of photography in which she has placed in a few local contests as well as had some of her photographs chosen for the 7MileMemories. She’s really looking forward to working with the Seven Mile Satellite.
