Local Businesses, Restaurants Offer Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day

Are you a local or just looking for a getaway to celebrate Valentine’s Day? Well, despite it being the offseason, there will be plenty to do on the island and in the area. Here are some ideas, whether you’re celebrating on the day itself or the weekend before or after the holiday.


Screen to Canvas Side-by-Side Painting for Two

Thursday, Feb. 8 

From 6-7:30 p.m., Avalon Public Library will be hosting Screen to Canvas Side by Side Painting for Two. The library invites you to bring your partner or even a family member or friend for this creative event. While this isn't an official Valentine's event, it's a perfect way to kick off Valentine's celebrations.

All materials will be provided and all experience levels are welcome, however, registration is required. To register, you can call the library or stop by the circulation desk.




Stone Harbor Golf Club Dinner

Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10

Stone Harbor Golf Club members can enjoy a special Valentine's dinner from 5-8 p.m.

The chef's four-course dinner will include champagne lobster bisque for the first course; frisée salad for the second course; a choice of pan roasted halibut, filet mignon with seared foie gras, chicken breast wellington, or cioppino del golfo for the main course; and a trio of the chef's chocolate creations or a parfait of passion fruit mousse for dessert.

The dinner is $85 per person and members can call to make a reservation.


Hawk Haven Wine and Chocolate Pairings

Feb. 9-11 and Feb. 16-18

For two weekends, enjoy a wine and chocolate pairing at Hawk Haven Vineyard and Winery.

The chocolates will be from Charles Chocolates, and visitors can enjoy the pairing as a flight or a guided experience.

Reservations are not needed for groups of less than six people. There will also be live music on Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 p.m.


Icona 3-Course Chef's Dinner

Feb. 10

The Icona is offering a romantic 3-course chef's dinner for two in the Seaglass Ballroom with piano entertainment. Seatings are from 6-8 p.m., and be sure to call to make a reservation in advance.

Appetizer choices include tomato burrata, tuna tartar and roasted beet salad. For the entree there's a choice between NY strip au poivre, chicken milanese and lobster ravioli. And dessert is the chef's selection.


Icona Winter Wonderland & Ice Skating at The Sandbar

Feb. 9-11 and Feb. 16-18

Until Feb. 25, the Icona is running a Winter Wonderland & Ice Skating at The Sandbar. For just $10 you can enjoy a 90 minute ice skating session, including the skate rental, or you can enjoy a specialty cocktail at a fire pit.

The Avalon Brew Pub full takeout menu is available for a bite to eat, and the specialty cocktails range from a Polar Bear Hot Chocolate to a Winter Margarita. 

The winter wonderland is open Fridays and Saturdays from noon until 8 p.m. and Sundays from noon until 6 p.m.




Bread and Cheese Cupboard Charcuterie Class

Tuesday, Feb. 13

The Bread and Cheese Cupboard is offering a Valentine’s charcuterie class at 6 p.m. at the South Seaville Methodist Church.

The event costs $50, and the proceeds will go toward the stained glass fund and community outreach projects. Participants should bring their own board, but supplies will be provided. Event goers will enjoy a guided class and be able to take home their finished boards. Email carriemtodd@gmail.com for ticket information. 


Avalon Garden Club Card Party

Tuesday, February 13, 2024

Avalon Garden Club is hosting a card party from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Avalon Community Hall.

Event goers are encouraged to bring any games that can be played on a standard card table such as Bridge, Mah-Jongg or other board games.

Lunch will be provided and there will be a raffle and 50/50. Tickets are $25 per person and must be purchased in advance. For more information, please contact Joanna Morrison: 609-675-6846.



Spiaggetta Cacio and Pepe Wheel

Wednesday, Feb. 14

Spiaggetta is opening at 5 p.m. with their regular menu for the whole week. A cacio and pepe wheel — pasta made in a cheese wheel — will be offered on Valentine's day, as well as their Italian rum cake.

Additionally, on Friday, Feb. 16, the restaurant will have a jazz night. 


Slack Tide Chocolate Pairing

Thursday, Feb. 15

Slack Tide is offering chocolate pairing event at 6 p.m.

Participants will receive a flight of beer, paired with four hand crafted chocolates from Damask’s Candies.

Participants should be aware that the chocolates will contain coconut and peanuts, and there won't be substitutions available. Tickets must be purchased in advance.



Nostalgia Night: Love is in the Air 

Friday, February 16, 2024

The Avalon Public Library is offering a History Center Nostalgia Night — Love is in the Air. The event will take place from 6-7 p.m. at the Rock n’ Chair.

The night will celebrate romance "Avalon stye" with reminiscing over refreshments. Couples will have the opportunity to share their stories of how their love began or blossomed in Avalon.
